3rd longest DS-43min 1st verse at 24min
Longest H.C. Sunshine 16min

Some say greatest China-Rider ever....

Deadbase had this ranked as the 23rd best show of the year (for 1973)...

Is it just me, or is this a very underrated show??
Any thoughts??

Yes, underrated. You could probably skip the 43 min Dark Star. Great versions of Row Jimmy, GSET, China > Rider, A&A, and HCS though, and solid renditions of Eyes and Sugar Mag.

I'd have to make it a top 10 for the year.

at the deadlists.com Darkstar Document, it gives this discription of the *****Cleveland Star >

"Cleveland 12/6/73 42:27 is remarkable not only for its scale but for its structure, which turns the customary Third Stage structure inside-out, working in toward the Dark Star theme, rather than starting from it, and moving out into space after the 1st vocals rather than back from it."

This is a "No Donna" show which should elevate it into the top 20 for no other reason than that.

funny, i posted pretty much this same thing over in another forum yesterday. i think it's underrated definitely, but everyone's got an opinion. but there's no question the China -> Rider and HCS are top five ever. Greatest Story, Row Jimmy and Sugar Mag are all outstanding as well. That should be enough to solidify its place in history.

i guess some people find the dark star boring. i think it's one of the most mind-blowing ever. i don't know if it's the best, but it's certainly one of the most unique in dead history. it's notable not just for its length (third longest ever), but also it's form, turning the traditional dark star format on its head. feels to me like the boys are channeling Miles Davis a al Bitches Brew -- challenging, but absolutely worth it. i've never heard keith or phil sound so good. keith sounds like herbie hancock. phil is downright scary.

I love the HCS from that show, but that Dark Star is only trumped by 12/19/73 as my least favorite of the 69-74 era. I'll have to give that China->Rider a listen; I've never heard it before.

Back when I was a drug store pedal car man... There's still two shows I really enjoy. Too bad Uncle John and my Father were still fighting about the trip to Colorado, hence CR&S. The kids good home safely however.

extremely underrated 2 say the least

regular 5* 1st set
best ever dark star
best ever hcs
top 5 ever china > rider
great mamu
most excellent eyes, stella, etc...

this dark star is the highest creative peak they reached, cosmic in the truest sense of the word. universes slide through ur minds eye, time and space slip into irrelevancy. virtuoso playing all around - slow, heavy and exploding with the unmatched power. the vibe is right. everything is perfect

the best show ever in my opinion

crank it up, check out the cracks on the walls later

and a big thank u 2 donna 4 staying home that night
